Everything But a White Tee
Labeling something as “must-have” is always a stretch. However, having staples in your closet for each season that aren’t micro trends is a long-term investment anyone can support. Here’s a few staples that you can wear all season long, and no, a white tee is not one of them.
Cropped Trench in Beige or Navy
I won’t write a paragraph on these. Get a good one that fits you well and it will go everywhere with you. Personally, the one I have will not be leaving my body until the trees are naked. Having a cute pattern on the inside is a bonus.
Midi Skirts
A new addition to my closet this fall. Perfect for the awkward in-between weather of not wanting to wear tights but still not ready to wear jeans like its winter. Midi skirts with knee- highs or flats are perfect for class, work, shopping, all of the above. Appropriate and chic.
Suede Boots
When I say suede boots, I do not mean the Steve Madden brown boots everyone and their mother has. They are cute, but the buckles can limit their versatility. And my closet? Its noting but efficient and applicable to any outfit or scenario. I cannot recommend Russel and Bromley or Farm Rio enough for a good pair of colorful, or neutral, walkable and good quality boots. Coats
The importance of having wool or cashmere coats on the cold fall days and evenings is not pointed out enough. These pieces keep you insanely warm and away from just layering sweatshirts. Peacoats from Max Mara? Say less. Wrap coats from Maje? I’ve already ordered a new one for the season. With these the quality can take you further than the style. Focus on: do they keep you warm, cute, and stylish?
Maxi Dress and Denim Jacket
A very Northeastern kind of look, but a look that is quite nice, nonetheless. This is more specific than have a basic in your closet but similar to the maxi skirts, a way to not let the flowing clothing go immediately after summer.
Cashmere
I will list only two that you should really devote money to for the fall and those are short sleeve sweaters and zip ups. The short sleeve sweaters (yes Christian Dior has a popular version) are just adorable and honestly you can have them in so many fun colors that provide variety in your rotation. I introduced cashmere zip-ups into my closed 2 years ago and I have not bought a hoodie since. With this go to classic cashmere stores, not the name brand ones, because you are truly purchasing an item based on its use and style, and not to larp.
I won’t tell you all what not to own because I am not the fashion god, nor am I here to judge you. Everyone has their own personal style, however, there are some exceptions. If something is ugly, don’t wear it. If something is cute because it has logos, don’t wear it. And if something is a micro trend, please do not wear it.
